SAN BARTOLO

San Bartolo is a little town in the south of Lima that offers great surfing for intermediate and advanced level of surfers. On this beach there are two different waves, a right and a left, one on each side of the stone quay that divides the beach in two. For expert or advanced surfer you have Peñascal away on the right side of the beach.

The left wave is generally smaller than the right one, but more perfect. Although the first section is a bit thick, later on it rises and becomes a playful and amusing wave. The right wave is not that perfect but is always bigger. In both of them the bottom is of stone and you have to be very careful on your way out as sea urchins are frequently found. The stone pier is used to go into the sea and is also a great angle for a photograph.

San Bartolo offers good surfing when other places are too small. During the summer might be crowded but in the winter it is rather unlikely, although people come during the weekends.

We recommend you to bring the short boards as the waves are never taller than 2 meters (6 feet).

When the swell gets bigger they oversize and they close out. Waves are better during winter (May-Oct), but during the summer you get a better environment with cool people around.

Where to stay:
There are many places to stay. We recommend you Kahunas Surf Host and Spa.

Where to eat:
There are several good places but only one that deserves special mention. The Rocio restaurant has great food at low prices. To get there you have to go by the old highway and get into the city in the second entrance. Make a quick left and go straight for a few minutes. Then ask the local people about the place. It is not easy to get there, but worth it.
