LA HERRADURA

How to get there:
It is in the district of Chorrillos in the city of Lima. To get there you must take the road to Costa Verde and cross Miraflores, Barranco and the Regatas Club. Then continue on the road of Salto del Fraile, circle the Morro Solar and there is a curve where the beach appears. If the wave is breaking here you will see an unforgettable sight.
It is the best wave near the city, but fortunately you feel far from its noises thanks to its colours and charm.

The waves:
To go to the Herradura you must be sure there is a big swell in the adequate direction (south to south-west) the best season is during the Winter when the south swells are more frequent from april to november ,althought it can sometimes work in summer too. The beach has the shape of a horseshoe and that is why it gets its name. It is a point break considered one of the best waves in the country. And it only starts breaking when the sea is big that’s why it is ideal to go there when other beaches are overside. On its best days the point the point breaks from 3 to 4 metres ( 9 to 12 ft) and the peak breaks some 30 m in front of the stone that sticks out at the end.
The wave has 3 sections and its long ride finishes in a shorebreak opposite the Samoa Club. Its one of Peru`s more aggressive and dangerous waves, due to its strength and the proximitry of the hill where it breaks.
