CENTINELA

How to get there:
It is located at Km 154 of the north Panamericana, near a small town called Huaura. At the deviation for Sayan you have to go West direction, towards the sea. The name of the street is AV. San Francisco. You need to go straight to the sea for about 5 Km. You have to go past a small village called Chacaca, along an unpaved road. You have to pass a hill called 3 de Mayo and keep going to the sea. It is not easy to get there; we recommend going with someone that knows the place.

The waves:
They are first class quality waves, and they break all year around, although it gets the best swells during winter. It can break up yo 2 meters and a half (8 feet). It is a perfect left pointbreak. It works with both tides but better with low tide. This wave has a long ride approximately of 300 meters over a sand bottom. At the point is has rock bottom and it get dangerous during low tide. Surfboards no longer than 7´2” are recommended and the water is usually cold, so a 3,2 wetsuit is recommended. There is no crowd during the week but some local surfers from Huacho arrive during the weekend.

Where to stay:
There are two possibilities. One is to stay in Huacho, a small town 5 Km south of Huaura. There are few hotels there but the most decent is Hotel Centenario. That will mean that you have to travel 25 minutes every day to ride Centinela. The best option is to stay at Fundo Centinela, a hotel that is in front of the point. Is a 10 hectares area surrounded by palms and you can stay in cabins or set you tent and camp.

Where to eat:
If you stay at Fundo Centinela, you can have food there. If you stay at Huacho, you have pretty decent restaurants in the town and we recommend you to try the pasta a Genova restaurant.
